The Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482), commonly referred to as the TSS visa, is an Australian work visa that allows employers to address labor shortages by hiring skilled workers from overseas when they cannot find a suitably skilled Australian worker to fill the job.

  • Short-Term Stream: Allows employers to sponsor a skilled worker for occupations listed on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) for a visa period of up to two years, with a possibility for renewal for another two years but without a direct pathway to permanent residency.
  • Medium-Term Stream: Designed for occupations listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), allowing the visa to be issued for up to four years, with eligibility for applying for permanent residence after three years.
  • Labour Agreement Stream: Used when an employer needs to hire overseas workers in accordance with a labor agreement with the Australian government, typically when standard visa programs are not available for those positions.
